So I motored on, refusing to believe a book that got such fantastic reviews could be as bad as it seemed in the first 4 pages. No such luck. I was only able to get 47 pages in before I threw in the towel. I strained to care about any of the characters because the author introduced so many of them so quickly, then you had to try to remember who each character (that you couldn't care about in the first place) was, how they all related to each other, what station of life they were in ... it was a ridiculous strain on my brain. I give up. You win, stupid English literature.
